Welcome to Junior Infants!!
Hi all, I would like to welcome everyone to our blog and our Chestnut Junior Infants class this year. I am delighted to report that we have gotten two weeks behind us and all is going well. The children have being settling in well and making new friends from day one.
Over the course of the last two weeks we have covered a number of nursery rhymes, started into some basic numbers, sorted between shapes, colours and sizes, learned a song for our upcoming celebration day and have had fun experimenting with colouring and paint.
We are looking forward to a hectic end to our first month in school and I hope that all parents/guardians will join in our excitement and help the children with their preparations and work.
In class, we will be covering some more nursery rhymes that parents can sing along with their children. These will include ; I'm A Little Teapot, Rock A Bye Baby, Two Little Dicky Birds, Hickory Dickory Dock and Baa Baa Black Sheep. This adds to our already covered Humpty Dumpty, Incy Wincy Spider, Jack and Jill, Hey Diddle Diddle and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Other areas for parents to help their children at home could include motor skills needed for writing developed through shape drawing, dot joining or general colouring neatly.
As Junior Infants, we would like the children to get a sense of belonging in our school and we will also be focussing on family and friendship across Geography and Oral Language. We will be looking for children to bring in family photos and to speak about their families and experiences.
The class would like to congratulate and announce our class representatives for our School Council : Leonard and Seun and for our Green Schools; Kyle and Arshia.
As a school, we will be celebrating our 'Flag Day' celebrations on Friday the 20th of September, for which you should have all received invitations through the children. Our class will be performing the song "Peace like a River" and provides another opportunity to help the children.
Again this year, Setanta book club catalogue ail be coming to the school and you can look forward to this over the coming months.
We have an exciting year ahead and I would like to welcome everyone on board.
Darren.
